Are you keeping an eye on the snow at work? Wondering when to call it a day? Will your employees be able to make it to work tomorrow? Or the next? What if roads are closed and they can’t go home? What if power lines go down from the weight of heavy snow? How will your business be affected?
If you have a disaster plan in place, you’re good to go and know it. But if you don’t, now would be a good time to at least get a few business continuity steps in place in case this or another weather event puts a monkey wrench into your day.
To get you started, here are some tips from your BBB:
• Make a business or departmental phone tree that includes employee names, work phones, home phones, cell phones, e-mail and duties.
• List people who can make operational decisions if the boss or department heads are absent.
• List services that are critical if the business were to close and how they can be performed off site.
• Create an employee work-at-home plan that includes assignments that can be performed at home with resources located there.
• List recovery assignments, including who is responsible for rebooting computer systems, inspecting the building for damage, etc.
